Dr. Mallory Garza

Dr. Garza graduated in 2019 from Louisiana Tech University’s Counseling Psychology Doctoral Program. Dr. Garza completed her APA-accredited internship training at Kansas State University Counseling Services and received postdoctoral training at Community Health Center of Southeast Kansas (CHC/SEK), a federally qualified health care facility in rural Kansas. Dr. Garza was licensed to practice in the state of Kansas in 2023 (#03223) and is actively pursuing licensure to practice in the state of Louisiana.

Dr. Garza strives to provide a therapeutic relationship that is based on collaboration, trust, and authenticity. She believes that all people have the capacity for self-awareness and that each person has a unique identity that can be known only through genuine relationships with others. She believes that the role of therapist is to help individuals focus on personal responsibility for making decisions in their lives, and she often uses cognitive-behavioral therapies as a means of helping individuals exert personal control over their own behaviors. Areas of clinical interest include working with young adults who present with concerns related to anxiety, depression, identity exploration, existential concerns, and general adjustment concerns. Other professional skills and interests include suicide awareness and prevention, mental health outreach, psychological assessment, supervision, consultation, and teaching. Dr. Garza is an Assistant Professor of Psychology in the Department of Psychology and Behavioral Sciences at her alma mater, LA Tech. Personal interests and hobbies include reading, hiking, traveling, and spending time with family!
